by Greta April 4th, 2010
We’re in! Cleaning and prepping the space now with buildout set to begin early this week.
Our first shows are coming together, so please mark your calendars and (artists) submit your work…

We are also registered for ART-A-WHIRL!
May 14 – 16 1 : SHARE | SPACE
‘1: Share|Space’ features a collection of local artists’ work that embodies the gallery’s dedication to build and promote a thriving and diverse arts community. Each artist has contributed a piece that encapsulates sharing space; identifying the distinction between Tarnish&gold and traditional galleries. The featured artists’ pieces are a jumble of media and context; that work together, transcend pretension, and interact with the viewer.
This show will extend beyond Art-A-Whirl dates.

Bio / Statement
The paintings are focused on the idea of the archetype verses environment. Often splitting self into several characters and interacting on canvas. This process reshapes reality and the perception of the environment. Scott West’s current work resonates between observation and rhythm. Often depicting human and animal archetypes of raw emotion entangled in complex compositions. Saturated in color West narrates the final scene of a play often leaving you pondering what took place.
Scott West a full time painter is also live painter and full time member of the national indie rock band Cloud Cult. The process of song writing and painting developed his concept of a painting reflecting a song. Brush strokes that represent rhythm, colors depicting key signatures, and visual compositions that echo song compositions. He continues to paint full time in his studio when he is not live painting internationally with the band. His work with ArtOrg and the collaborative print project Twenty Views of Dundas is now a part of the permanent collection at The Whitney Museum of American Art. Scott West’s work has been shown internationally and made an appearance painting live on the television show Last Call with Carson Daly.
I am a local artist in Minneapolis and am interested in seeing if my art would be a good fit for your studio. I do large pastel pieces that focus on women. This takes many forms in my art as I explore aspects of femininity, gender, and society. My current website is under construction but I would be happy to send you photos of my current work. Thank you for taking the time to consider my art.
